CBD is continuing to skyrocket in popularity for its ability to treat any different diseases, ailments, and mental disorders. One of the most successful areas that CBD can influence is CBD for PTSD. In this article I will discussing CBD for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as discussing its effectiveness, dosage, and safety with both short-term and long-term usage.
What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, more commonly known as PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that stems from the individual’s personal traumatic memory/memories. It causes extreme anxiety, a tendency to avoid certain people, places, and things associated with the traumatic event(s), reactive and arousal symptoms (on edge, jumpiness, etc), as well as cognitive symptoms such as difficulty remembering the details of the traumatic event or depression-like symptoms. A few examples of things that can cause PTSD include:
- Experience in War (Most common)
- Being Molested as a Child
- Sudden Death of a Close Loved One
- Being Physically Abused
- Being a Victim of a Crime Involving Weapons
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, more commonly known by its abbreviation CBD, is a botanical supplement extracted from the cannabis plant – typically, cannabis ruderalis, which is commonly known as industrial hemp. CBD is known to have many medicinal properties, one of which is in the treatment of PTSD. Because cannabis ruderalis does not typically attract insects, most hemp is grown without the use of heavy pesticides. While this is said, it’s important to choose a CBD vendor who provides test results either on-site or per request not only for bacterial contamination, but for use of heavy pesticides as well!
Is CBD Safe?
CBD is completely and totally safe. There have not been any reported deaths from use of any cannabis product, and this includes CBD oils, topicals, edibles, et cetera. It is also safe for children of all ages as well as your furry friends, too! As CBD does not produce a “high” like THC, you don’t have to worry about getting too high and freaking out.
CBD for PTSD: Effectiveness
CBD is very effective in treating PTSD-induced insomnia, anxiety, and reactive/arousal symptoms. I personally have acute PTSD, and in the past few months of taking CBD, my symptoms drastically increased – I was even able to walk around the area where my traumatic event happened to me a few weeks ago – major improvement!
CBD Dosage for PTSD
The average dosage of CBD for PTSD is 40-120mg per day administered sublingually, in capsules, or in edibles. What I would recommend doing is getting CBDPure 600 to start and slowly working your way up from there. To begin, start small – 5mg (0.5mL/0.5 Dropper Full of CBDPure 600) 4-5 times a day, and slowly increase dosage until desired relief is achieved. To determine what your CBD hemp oil’s dosage is, take the total milligram dosage (for example CBDPure comes in a 600mg tincture), and divide it by the number of fluid ounces in the bottle. This means that 1mL, or one dropper full of CBDPure, is 10mg of CBD.
