CBD is a supplement that is currently gaining more and more popularity every day. In my article, What is CBD good for?, I detailed a few ailments and diseases that CBD is good for. In this particular article I will writing about CBD for Depression and detailing how CBD affects the brain and how good CBD is for depression, in both the cases of seasonal and Major Depressive Disorder.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most concentrated cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. It is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not get the user “high.” It is typically extracted from cannabis ruderalis, otherwise known as industrial-grade hemp. It has a plethora of medicinal benefits, both for physical and psychological/neurological disorders.
How does CBD affect the brain?
CBD affects the following receptors in the brain: Indirect interaction with CBD1 and CBD2 (Cannabinoid Receptors); Direct Interaction with Opioid, Dopamine, and Serotonin receptors. Because of the Dopamine and Serotonin direct interaction, CBD is great for depression. Because CBD does not directly interact with the cannabinoid receptors, it does not get the user high. However, it can increase the concentration of endocannabinoids (cannabinoids naturally occuring in the body) by inhibiting the enzymes that break them down.
CBD for Depression
CBD is excellent for depression. This study shows that CBD positively activates the 5-HT1A receptor, which has been shown to increase dopamine relase in the medial prefrontal cortex, striatum, and hippocampus parts of the brain. I personally use CBD for my major depressive disorder and have been successfully for years (in combination with prescription medications). I highly recommend CBD to anyone seeking a natural alternative for pharmaceutical medications as well as in addition to pharmaceutical medications for depression.
Best CBD Brand for Depression
I personally use the following brand of CBD to treat my depression: CBDPure 600mg.
In conclusion, CBD is excellent for depression and I highly recommend anybody experiencing any type of depression whatsoever to try it! It’s natural, safe, and effective for many disorders, including depression.
