CBD and Autism – Effectiveness, Dosage, and Safety

The Autism Spectrum Disorder is a very broad spectrum, especially now that asperger syndrome is a part of the spectrum. Having an autistic child can be a very real challenge, and many people are looking for a way to help their child live a happy and fulfilling life by reducing the negative consequences of having autism whilst retaining the positive benefits that it grants. In this article, I will be discussing CBD and Autism and its effectiveness, as well as dosage and safety (both for children and adults).

What is Autism?

Autism is a highly complex neurological disorder that affects 62.2 million people (including myself – asperger’s), approximately three-quarters of which are male. Autism Spectrum Disorder can affect the following:

  • Sensory Perception
  • Emotion and Emotional Awareness
  • Natural Train of Thought
  • Intense Obsessions
  • Difficulty in Social Settings
  • Inability to Maintain Eye Contact
  • Gastrointestinal Issues
  • Learning Delay
  • Speech Disability
  • Inability to “Read” Emotions
  • Anxiety and Unusual Phobias
  • Repetitive Behaviors

What is CBD?

CBD is an up and coming botanical supplement made from the cannabis ruderalis, or hemp. It has a plethora of medicinal benefits as shown in this article. CBD comes in multiple forms – edibles, shots, capsules, tinctures, isolate, and oils.

CBD and Autism – Is It Effective?

CBD is extremely effective in symptomatically treating autism. Check out this story about a 9 year old with autism who, with the help of cannabis spray, learned to finally speak. It’s also good for other symptoms of autism as well, including gastrointestinal issues and anxiety. In my personal experience, CBD has absolutely revolutionized the quality of my life in the following ways:

  • Less Anxiety
  • Less “Sensory Overload”
  • More Socialability
  • Decreased Depression
  • Decreased Pain
  • Decreased Gastrointestinal Issues

Is CBD Safe? What About For Kids?

CBD is very safe, with the only side effects being dry mouth, lowered blood pressure, and drowsiness in higher doses. It is also safe for children as well as your furry friends as well!

CBD Dosage For Autism

For children I recommend starting with 10-15mg of CBD daily, and slowly increasing dosage to as high as  75mg (or more) as needed. CBD Gummies are a great choice for kids as this brand’s gummies have 15mg of CBD in each gummy – the perfect dose for the kiddos!

For adults I recommend starting with 20-35mg of CBD daily and slowly increasing dosage to 100mg (or more) per day. CBD Capsules are a great choice for adults with autism seeking to self-medicate using CBD.

My CBD for Autism Recommendations

Now that you’ve learned that CBD is excellent for autism, I’d like to present to you my recommendations for CBD for Autism.

For children, I recommend CBDPure 600mg once daily or CBDPure 750 Softgels for more severe cases. Alternatively, they might like HempBombs’ CBD Gummies If this isn’t enough, bump up to HempBombs’ 1,000mg CBD oil and slowly increase in dosage every 10 days or so until you’ve found your child’s sweet spot!

For adults, I also recommend CBDPure 600mg but twice daily. Alternatively, HempBombs sells CBD CapsulesCBD Vape Juice (I recommend the 300mg version), and more! If your autism is more severe, you may want to look into HempBombs’ 1,000mg CBD oil, their 2,000mg CBD Oil, or even their 4,000mg CBD Oil.

Thank you so much for reading, and I truly hope your child benefits from CBD as much as I did. Please let me know in the comments how CBD has affected you or your child, how excited you are for you or your child to try CBD, or any questions you might have!

Hi, which of your products would you recommend for a 25 year old autistic male with self injurious behavior

  5. Joe

Hello, we have a 9 year old boy with aspergers that takes 30 to 40 mg of vyvanse and 5 mg of lexapro daily. He has been on this for over a year. The side effects are what have us worried. He only weighs 52 lbs and never has an appetite. He has recently developed several ticks that concern us (one is seizure like) and they drive him crazy. We plan on speaking with the doctor about these ticks and possible treatment with cbd oil instead of meds. Gummies would be perfect for him. Which product and dossage would you recommend?
    Thank you for your time.

Hey Joe! Your 9 year old is probably not gaining wait due to the Vyvanse. Vyvanse is a stimulant based ADHD medication. Stimulants even in ADHD patients can cause an inability to gain wait and can even cause the patient to LOSE weight. Try out the HempBombs gummies first and stay posted as within the next week I’ll be reviewing every single one of my favorite CBD gummies.
